comes to Sea Otter to meet friends and post results

MONTEREY,
Calif. (January 9, 2008) Thanks to its inclusion on a somewhat
pared-down National Racing Calendar, road racing at this
year's Sea Otter Classic, A Celebration of Sport, will attract
racers desperately chasing after precious points in both
the individual and team categories. While Sea Otter has
enjoyed a spot on the NRC since creation, the trimmer 2008
calendar forecasts participation by teams from across the
nation plus key Olympic hopefuls like Christine Thorburn,
Kristin Armstrong and Tina Pic, who will be out to showcase
their talents in this Olympic year.
Starting
Thursday, April 17, the SRAM road races invite racers of
all ages and categories to test themselves on both a road
race and a circuit race.
"Sea
Otter is almost like a party where I can meet all my friends
from other sides of the US and where we can hang out in
the expo," said junior cycling phenom Coryn Rivera,
who started racing at Sea Otter when she was only 13. "I
also come for the racing where I can put out good results."
Rivera,
who holds sixteen national cycling titles at the tender
age of 15, started racing at Sea Otter in 2004 and has since
won five races in different disciplines. Rivera will likely
be the US's next great hope for an Olympic medal in 2012
or 2016. With its myriad events in addition to professional
and amateur racing, the Sea Otter Classic grants juniors
like Rivera the opportunity to race in a setting worthy
of her national champion status. The same goes for men's
masters racers and women, who show up in droves to race
in one of 10 categories for the circuit race alone!
"Now
is the time when many racers take a hard look at the year
ahead and find that the Sea Otter Classic provides all the
answers to their demands," said Frank Yohannan, president

fun, and spending time with family can all be checked off
a list of things to do at the Sea Otter Classic."
What
you need to know about road racing at the Sea Otter Classic:
The
SRAM road race will take racers on an 8.5-mile loop around
Fort Ord. After completing the required laps for their respective
categories, racers will climb up Barloy Canyon for a mountaintop
finish.

The
2.23-mile SRAM circuit race on the Laguna Seca raceway features
a challenging 300-foot climb and a dizzying descent through
the infamous "Corkscrew." Depending upon race
category, racers will have to complete multiple laps in
this race of attrition, which tests power, performance and
often the will to hang on for dear life as racers trade
constant blows in pursuit of victory.
