History is made: The first Black African to win a Grand Tour stage and a one-day Classic!

2022 has been one of the most exciting seasons on the cycling World Tour. A highlight has been the incredible rise of the 22-year-old Eritrean superstar, Biniam Girmay. In one season, Girmay has gone from veritable obscurity to being the first Black African to win a one-day Classic (Gent Wevelgem) and the first to win a Grand Tour stage (2022 Giro d’Italia). Never mind the chatter about an errant cork, Girmay is a superstar and we will be seeing much more of him on the top step!

2022 California Coast Classic Bike Tour
+ Arthritis Challenge Experience,

Almost 60 million people in the US are affected by arthritis (24 percent of the adult population). La Grange member Peter Belisle is interested in doing the 2022 California Coast Classic Bike Tour + Arthritis Challenge Experience, presented by Amgen. The event is September 10-17 and encompasses 525 miles and approximately 26,000 ft of climbing. Looking for something epic? This ride may be for you. Amgen even offers great local training rides. Some LG Events to look forward to!

 

We have some exciting events coming in the next couple of months. Our Annual LG Santa Barbara Century is coming in July. This ride is always fun. Rich Hirschinger will once again be leading our intrepid troupe. There will be a small fee but will include a full SAG with snacks and a delicious lunch at the end.

We also have a Ride with Canyon coming in July. This ride will take us into the hills of San Diego County with our friends at Canyon HQ. Details coming soon.

 

PKRS.AI: 4-Apps-in-1 with Joey B.

 
 

I've had the pleasure of trying out the PKRS platform and wanted to share my impressions with you. PKRS is a bit different from other services in that it combines technology in a AI-based platform with expertise in the form of 4 human coaches assigned to each athlete, the coaches are broken down into the roles of head coach, strength coach, nutritionist, and mindset coach. As a control, I compared the findings and suggestions of PKRS to my own cobbled-together team of a Training Peaks Silver Coach, Zwift Membership, WHOOP Strap, and Noom subscription. I found the PKRS solution to accurately approximate the advice and value I was getting from my "team" at a fraction of the price and in a single app. Here are a few of the features I liked most about PKRS:

  • It was easy to move workouts or adjust the intensity / duration to what was going on in my life.

  • The UI was intuitive and easy to learn.

  • It integrated with most of my other fitness/health apps - certainly the ones that tracked workouts.

  • The coaches would reach out to me, starting conversations with valuable insight or questions.

  • When I shared some intense personal work and life stress, the mindfulness coach added some meditation to my routine. I long ago benefited from a meditation practice, but as I got busier in life I lost it along the way, this has gotten me back on the path of a 10-minute sit in the AM which is paying great benefits.
